Susan Lea Stubblefield Edwards' Obituary
Susan Lea (Stubblefield) Edwards died peacefully on March 11, 2011, following a difficult struggle with lung cancer. Susie was a first grade teacher for over 30 years, and she will be dearly missed by family, friends, former students, fellow teachers and administrators. A native Dallasite, Susie was born on May 15, 1954, and attended Lakewood Elementary, J. L. Long, and Woodrow Wilson High School. A graduate of Texas Tech University in 1976, Susie earned a degree in elementary education. She taught scores of students at Travis Elementary, Peeler Elementary, and Gill Elementary, and was recognized for her outstanding work in teaching reading skills to her “little ones.” She also taught for two years in Quito, Ecuador. Susie touched many young lives with her patience, kindness, and love. She possessed a wonderful sense of humor which belied a real strength of character and a determined will to live. Susie is preceded in death by her father, Don Stubblefield, and is survived by her mother, Joyce Stubblefield; sister, Sandy Bryer; brother, David Stubblefield; nieces Elizabeth Bryer, Julie Bryer Trumm, and Sarah Stubblefield, and nephew, Bryan Stubblefield. A memorial service is set for Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Restland Wildwood Chapel, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
