Suzanne was very kind to me as a new immigrant from Zimbabwe. On one of my very first visits to Glen Cove Swim Club, she welcomed us with a gift basket - Daniella was wearing a watermelon swimsuit and that was the prize for the day! She invited me to join the Board of Glen Cove Swim Club as her secretary when she was president and boy, was I so glad I did! I got to know Suzanne, Ken and kids over wonderful summer days. The twins would play with my 2 daughters as they grew up from toddlers. Dominique, Daniella and I have many happy memories of old fashioned American fun like July 4th festivities at Glen Cove. I learned about organizing a good old fashioned American "Hamburger Fry", American humor and how stuff is done in the USA 🇺🇸 while working on her board. Suzanne was very kind and patient and she had a great sense of humor when dealing with stressful situations at Glen Cove. Suzanne was always very kind to me. I was a new immigrant from Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 and she invited me to be her secretary on the Board of Glen Cove Swim Club. This was the start of many friendships and happy memories at Glen Cove. Suzanne's big heart made me feel welcome and I found ''my tribe". Suzanne was always so very kind to me -and so funny - she gifted my family with a fun watermelon gift basket one year as a prize because my baby Daniella was dressed in a watermelon swimsuit! She invited me to be her Secretary at Glen Cove Swim Club, and I grew to love her and her family very quickly as she was most gracious and kind - especially to me, a new immigrant from Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 I knew Ken, the kids - especially the twins - they played with my little ones as my 2 daughters grew up. Suzanne was a quilting friend on FB first, but I will never forget how warm and welcoming she was on meeting me, along with Janet Yatska, when I flew in from Canada to attend the Houston Quilt Show. I spent four wonderful days in her company and meeting some of her family, from then on I felt such a closeness to Suzanne. I will always miss her posts and pictures on FB and will never forget her .. I have photos!! Rest in Peace, Suzanne.

I think, for me, one of my most core memories of my mother. The one that never leaves me is... Sometime in high school, probably around junior year, my best friend Jim and I decided to skip school. For clarity, Jim decided to skip school, and I was bullied into staying at the house with him. I'd even done my homework the night before! Which was no small feat. Anyway, Jim and I are in the living room playing video games and just generally being miscreants, and Jim decides its time for a soda. So he gets up and walks around the corner into the kitchen, and almost IMMEDIATELY starts backpedaling. And he has that look on his face. If you know Jim, you know the one I am talking about. But he's just dumbfounded. And sure enough, not two seconds later, Mom walks around the corner with her hands on her hips. She doesn't get mad, she doesn't throw a fit. She just says calmy, and without equivocation, "Well, if you two are here today, you might as well help me retile the bathroom floor." So that's how we spent our day playing hooky. Thanks Jim.
