Sydney Freeman's Obituary
“Sweet” Sydney, brown-eyed angel with a heart of gold, was born August 6, 1949 in Jacksonville, Florida to James and Frances Freel. She went home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on January 26, 2017, in Dallas, Texas, following a brief illness and hospital stay. Sydney was married to Kerry Freeman in Dallas, Texas on March 23, 1974. They were blessed with two children, Kerry, Jr. and Laura. Though living in Dallas most of her life, she and her family spent several years in Indonesia serving the Lord through the ministry of Mission Aviation Fellowship. Having formerly worked in the corporate world as an escrow officer, Sydney enjoyed the last several years just being a wife, mother and home-maker. Sydney was filled with love and treated everyone with respect and compassion. Her outgoing personality enabled her to immediately connect with everyone she met. If Sydney was your friend, you had a friend for life. Her children were the spice of her life; she loved spending time with them, especially during the holidays. She was always available to talk with them through life’s challenges and went above and beyond to nurse them back to health during periods of illness. Her extended family also held a special place in her heart; she loved keeping up to date on all the happenings through Facebook. Having grown up in Florida, summer was Sydney’s favorite time of year and she especially loved to be near the ocean. She and Kerry regularly made trips to Port Aransas where she enjoyed lounging on the beach, deep-sea fishing, and dining at her favorite seafood restaurants. She was also a novice horticulturist; she could plant a broomstick in the ground and make it blossom. Sydney was more than a devoted wife and mother; most importantly, she had an abiding love for Jesus Christ. She prayed, read and studied to show herself approved for the time when she would meet her Savior face to face. Now she is peacefully enjoying all the blessings of heaven and is no doubt thrilled to reunite with her loved ones who went there before her. Sydney is survived by her husband, Kerry, and their two children, Kerry, Jr. of Dallas, Laura Byrom and husband Russell of San Antonio, brothers James Freel, Jr., Matthew Freel and John Freel, sister Leslie Gerrits and husband Jack Gerrits, all of Dallas. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, James and Frances Freel, and her brother, Thomas Freel. Services will be held on February 2, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Northwest Bible Church, 8505 Douglas Ave, Dallas, Texas, followed by a reception and private graveside service at Restland Memorial Park. Good night, Sweet Sydney, we love you and will see you in the morning. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
