Sylvia Betz Knox's Obituary
Sylvia Betz Knox, born on April 25, 1930, in Newfield, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025, in Nacogdoches, Texas. She was the beloved daughter of Violet and David Holdsworth and sister to her late brother, David Holdsworth.
Sylvia married twice in her lifetime, first to Ted Betz, with whom she shared 29 wonderful years until his passing in 1983, and later to Earl Knox, with whom she spent 20 cherished years before his passing in 2007. She was a devoted mother to her two children, David Betz and Debbie Stevens (husband Dennis), and a loving grandmother to Michelle Lanning (husband Steven), Bryan Betz, Bobby Betz, and Ted Stevens (wife Laura).
A graduate of Saint Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio, Sylvia began her career as a registered nurse. She dedicated twenty years to being a homemaker, raising her two children, before pursuing a career in industrial nursing at AT&T in Mesquite.
Sylvia had a deep love for music, particularly jazz and big bands, and cherished singing in her church choir. Her favorite song was "Stardust" by Ray Anthony. She was an avid gardener and an accomplished needleworker who enjoyed sewing, quilting, and needlepoint. Sylvia also loved traveling in the United States and abroad, capturing memories through her passion for photography. A talented cook, she delighted in preparing meals for her family.
A longtime member of Spring Valley United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas, Sylvia was active in The Seekers Sunday School class. She was also a proud member of the Dallas Needlepoint Guild, Hella Shriners Past Potentate Ladies, and a Lifetime member of The Order of the Eastern Star.
Sylvia will be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, beautiful smile, and unwavering care for her family and friends. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 2nd, 2025, at Restland Cemetery – Wildwood Chapel, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by the service at 2:00 PM.
