Tamara Lyn Hunter's Obituary
Tamara (Tammy) Lyn Hunter, born February 22, 1963 to Joe and Carmen, (Sue) Lamanna in Detroit, Michigan. Tamara passed away comfortably at home on February 17, 2023, surrounded by her loving husband, Michael, and their dog. Tamara was raised in Troy, Michigan, attending Detroit Country Day School and graduating from West Bloomfield High School. A high school job in high end women’s retail led her to enroll at Miss Wade’s Fashion School located in the Dallas Apparel Mart. Following graduation, she embarked on a career in hospitality, working in well known Dallas area restaurants as well as the Dallas Museum of Art in special events. Tamara fell in love with the energy and climate of Dallas and never left, marrying the love of her life, Michael Hunter, at the Crescent Court Hotel on October 11, 1997.
As a young girl, Tamara loved all animals, especially horses. She looked forward to riding camp in Vermont every summer. Florida beach vacations were another favorite memory of her childhood. Living near an Equestrian Center in Dallas reignited her passion for horse riding. Tamara’s life was devoted to animals, rescuing more than 50 animals in the Dallas area. Her many cats and dogs lived long, happy lives as her children.
Tamara’s beautiful smile could light up the room and her infectious laugh was legendary. Tamara was known for her meticulous style; her outfits were often complimented with a hat. Her friends and family looked forward to her frequent, legendary parties. Every season, holiday and celebration was a reason to host a dinner with the appropriate tabletop settings and elaborate decor throughout her home. Her many passions included cooking, gardening, home decor and floral arranging.
Tamara is survived by her mother, Carmen Louise Lozen Lamanna (Sue), brother, Rocky Lamanna and his wife Andrea. Tamara was also deeply loved by Michael’s family - parents, Wayne and Judy Hunter, sister, Diane Ganze and her husband, Brent, and her lifelong friend, Maureen D’Avanzo.
She is predeceased by her father, Joe Lamanna.
