Teresa Jane Floyd's Obituary
Teresa Jane Floyd
October 16, 1944 - July 13, 2023
Teresa Jane Floyd of Lindale, Texas, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023. She was born in Richardson, Texas, on October 16, 1944, the only child of Andrew Jackson (Jack) Floyd of Richardson, Texas, and Allie Louise Elliott of Marietta, Texas.
She is survived by her two children, Kimberly Thompson Koelzer (Michael Koelzer) of Waxahachie, Texas, and William Blaine Thompson (Amy McCrary) of Lindale, Texas, and five grandchildren: Allie Thompson, Ashlie Blalock (Lane Blalock), Tyler Thompson, Madeleine Koelzer, and Atalie Thompson.
A descendant of the Richardson, Texas, Floyds who helped settle the north Dallas area in 1855, Teresa was a graduate of Richardson High School (1963), Austin College (BS, Biology, 1967) where she was homecoming queen, and North Texas State University (University of North Texas) (MEd, 1980). During a 25+ year career in education teaching high school students in physical science, biology, and anatomy, first at Crockett High School in Austin, Texas, and then Grapevine High School in Grapevine, Texas, she also coached the Crockett Tex-Anns drill team, and co-led the Grapevine High School Academic Decathlon team.
A single mother, she often took multiple side jobs to support her children, making sure they had more than they could ever need while many times going without herself. She was a life-long learner who enjoyed exploring and traveling the world, and she shared these passions with her children.
Teresa will be inurned in the Floyd Pioneer Cemetery at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society (https://donate.cancer.org/) who supported and cared for her mother, Allie Floyd, or Hospice of East Texas (https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=E114823&id=10) who lovingly provided comfort for Teresa and her family.
