Terry Edward Condran's Obituary
Terry Edward Condran was called to his heavenly home on December 3, 2021, after lengthy illnesses. Terry was born to Beatrice and Jerry E. Condran on December 30, 1943 in Middletown, Pennsylvania. Terry played football and basketball for Texline High School, Texline, Texas, and graduated in 1962. His mother, Beatrice, supported him by following him to every game.
Terry met the love of his life, Alta Butler in November of 1967. They married on March 8, 1968, celebrating 54 years of marriage. They raised 3 sons, Dewayne, Steven, and Charles.
Immediately after graduating high school, Terry worked as a telegrapher for the Fort Worth and Denver Railroad out of Texline Depot. He transmitted and received messages to workmen and train dispatchers. He had knowledge of the Book of Rules, including Morse Code.
In 1963 he proudly joined the Navy serving a total of 4 years active duty entirely aboard the USS Valley Forge Aircraft Carrier in a communications position. He completed 4 tours in Vietnam, with many missions. He received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. He served 6 more years in the Navy Reserves.
Upon returning home, waiting for an open railroad position that was held for him while serving his country, he worked for the American National Insurance Company.
In 1973 he worked as a brakeman with Burlington Northern Railroad and was quickly promoted to conductor. In 1975 he accepted a position as a Field Representative with United Transportation Railroad Labor Union. This began his career of working for the railroad and United Transportation Union Insurance Association, retiring after 42 years.
Terry enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He was a master wood craftsman and made many family heirlooms.
Terry was a member of the First Christian Church of Terrell, Terrell, Texas since 1996. He was also a member of The American Legion, and The National Association of Fraternal Insurance Counsellors, achieving requirements for the Three Million Club in 1981, 1982, and 1986.
Terry is preceded in death by his father, Jerry E. Condran, his mother, Beatrice, Sister, Dianne Condran, his namesake and niece, Teri Darlene, granddaughters, Shasta and Ashly.
He is survived by his wife, Alta, three sons, Dewayne (wife, Denise), Steven, Charles, four grandchildren, Matthew, Jaron, Mackenzie, Annabella. A special bond with niece, Donna Jean, nephew, Rusty. Many nieces and nephews. Close friends, Larry, Joe, and Sam. Terry will forever be remembered and loved as a son, brother, nephew, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, "Pappy", and cherished friend.
The family will forever be grateful to Pastor Greg Richards with Re-Church of Kaufman, Texas, for his many visits and phone calls, and to Hope Hospice nurses and Chaplain.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2021 from 9:00am to 6:00pm at Restland Funeral Home.
Military service will be held on Friday, December 17, 20201 at 2:00pm at the Memorial Chapel - Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243. Officiated by pastors Greg Richards and Greg Corona. Masks are encouraged but not required.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Christian Church of Terrell, Texas, Maintenance Department, or Re-Church, Kaufman, Texas, in memory of Terry Condran.
Funeral arrangements for Terry Edward Condran have been faithfully entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery.
