Thaily Bour's Obituary
Thaily Bour, 78 of Garland, Texas was born 12/17/1945 in Kandal Province, Cambodia to
parents Voung Bour (father) and Nai Hahm (mother) passed away on 3/24/2024. He married
Yaran Duch in 1975 in Cambodia.
He served in the Cambodian Army from 1970-1975 as a military police officer.
Thaily Bour was a shining example of a man who refused to give up in life amid remarkably
difficult circumstances. College educated, French speaking, and an officer in the Military, he
became the public enemy of one of the most brutal and often forgotten communist regimes in
history: The Khmer Rouge. Forced to flee their home with their daughter Socheat, they ran, for
years, leaving all of their belongings and family behind, many of whom were killed. He never
gave up on his wife and daughter, even when they were separated while fleeing when he
walked for over a month to find them.
After temporary stays in refugee camps in Thailand where his second daughter Raksa was
born, they were eventually told they would be relocated to Dallas, Texas, USA where Sastra
and Matthew were born. Through hard work and sacrifice, Mr. Bour worked tirelessly and
always provided for his young family. He could often be found studying the dictionary, always
learning, while leading and loving his family with his calm and gentle strength.
Thaily Bour's legacy is etched in the hearts of those who knew him best. His indomitable spirit,
coupled with his boundless love and compassion, shall remain an enduring inspiration to all who
had the privilege of crossing his path.
Thaily Bour is preceded in death by his parents, Voung Bour and Nai Hahm, and his sisters,
Kimthoa and Kimset Bour.
He leaves behind a cherished legacy, survived by his devoted wife, Yaran Duch, his loving
children Socheat Bour, Raksa Moran, Sastra Mezger, and Matthew Bour, as well as an
extensive family network spanning generations; sons-in-law, Miguel Villarreal, Trey Moran, and
Robert Mezger. Grandchildren, Armani Bour, Adrian, Alyssa, Miguel Jr. Villarreal, McKenna,
Maddie and Will Moran, Sokai Mam, Simeon, Nathan and MacArthur Mezger. Sister, Pisey
Ferdinand, and nephew, Robert Ferdinand. Thaily's memory shall forever be enshrined in the
annals of history, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.
A devout Christian, Thaily's life will be celebrated in a service befitting his enduring faith and
legacy. His memory shall continue to illuminate the lives of those who were fortunate enough to
know him.
