Thao Van Nguyen's Obituary
Mr. Thao Van Nguyen, age 66 of Arlington, Texas was born August 15, 1956 to father, Hien Van Nguyen and mother, Co Thi Nguyen and passed away on July 23, 2023 at 9:59 pm.
He married Ngoc Bich on 4/24/2003 in An Giang, Vietnam. By the age of 9, Thao lost his younger sister and both of his parents. Throughout his entire life, he showed true grit, perseverance, and determination. Thao’s biggest accomplishment was the ability to find a path for his family to come to America. He was selfless in this journey and contracted a disease in a refugee camp that ultimately led to his death.
Thao was a great role model to his children and grandchildren. He was very loving, smart, caring, loyal, and funny. He touched everyone he met and always left a lasting impression. He had an infectious smile and had the ability to fix anything mechanical.
Thao loved singing, boating, and fishing with his wife, family, and friends. He also liked to play billiards and anything to do with cars. He enjoyed being outdoors and had a vegetable garden that would make any farmer jealous.
His favorite piece of furniture is the hammock in the backyard next to the fishpond that he and his wife built. His dream was to retire in Vietnam, lay in a hammock, and drink fresh coconut juice from the numerous coconut trees on his property.
Thao is preceded in death by younger sister, Hoang Oanh Nguyen; father, Hien Van Nguyen; and mother, Co Thi Nguyen.
He is survived by his wife, Ngoc Bich and their son, Chi Thanh; Son, Huey, wife, Ann, and children Patrick and Andrew; son, Tommy Phuong, wife, Sen, and children, Leah Mai Phuong, Mia Thao-My "Em", Ryan Huy "Brother"; daughter, Linh and husband, Sam; daughter, Leann and children, Liam and Laylani; and his older sister, Hau Thi Nguyen.
A public visitation will take place from 2 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, August 3; and from 9 AM to 8 PM on Friday, August 4 at Restland Funeral Home. A Vigil of Prayer will take place at 2 PM on Friday, August 4.
Funeral Mass will take place at 11 AM on Saturday, August 5 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 500 E. Dallas St., Mansfield, TX. A procession to Restland Funeral Home will follow.
The family expresses their gratitude for all the support shown and marks of kindness at this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to a fund setup to support his wife, Bich, and their young son, Chi Thanh. https://www.gofundme.com/f/Bich-ChiThanh
