Thelma Faye Barton's Obituary
Thelma Barton, 73 of Garland, Texas passed away on April 16th, 2024. The beautiful and sweet lady who personified a true friend, wife, mother and grandmother went home to the lord. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Helen and Lloyd Frame, her husband, Michael Barton and three sisters Sandra, Diane and Vickie. She was survived by three sons and their wives, Todd and Janette, Chris and Alicia, Cayce and Tara. Thelma leaves behind two brothers and a sister, Terry, Joe and Sherry. She will always be missed by her grandchildren, Finn, Ellery, Tucker, Brentley and Nash. With many nieces, nephews, in-laws, devoted friends and wonderful individuals who knew and loved her, she will leave a legacy and be truly celebrated.
Thelma was born in Danville, Arkansas and grew up with many lifelong friends from Havana and Russellville. She excelled at basketball, the clarinet and enjoying the outdoors with the Brownies. She grew up to be a very pretty teenager and met her future husband, Mike Barton. Thelma enrolled in beauty school and completed her high school degree. She and Mike were married in December of 1967 and gave birth to Todd in 69. Thelma and Mike moved to Texas where along with Doyle and Patsy Barton, started the Barton Sonic Drive-In Franchise. She worked hard and became a mother of three with the birth of Chris and Cayce. The family had many travels and good times. The boys grew up and started families of their own. It was at that time, Thelma became Gamy… her greatest role. Mike, the love of her life, passed away in 2007 but it didn’t stop her. She traveled over the world and to all 50 states with family and dear friends. Thelma experienced everything she could and lived a fulfilled life. She even rode around the country with a motorcycle gang. Thanks Charlie.
In Thelma’s final hours, she told us all that she was sorry that she had to leave us and that she wished for more time. We all wished for the same thing. Life for us will never be the same. Her over the top Christmas’s, family trips, cheerleading for all the grandchildren’s events and upbeat persona to lift your spirits. She will be welcomed in heaven with open arms and told, “you did good, Thelma”.
