Thelma Thompson's Obituary
Thelma McGaskey Thompson was born on October 29, 1926, in Provencal, Louisiana, to the late Henry McGaskey and Rosetta Calhoun McGaskey. She received her early education in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
She married K. T. Thompson in Kilgore, Texas, and together they made their home in Dallas, where they raised and educated their seven children through the Dallas public school system. Thelma and her husband were active members of the North Park Civic League, reflecting their commitment to community and service.
Mrs. Thompson devoted many years to caring for others as a nursing assistant at Parkland Hospital.
She was a longtime and faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church in Dallas. Her service to the church was extensive, including roles as Vice President of the Deaconess Ministry and active participation in the Mission, Nurses Guild, Choir, and Sunday School. She remained devoted to her church family, attending regularly until her health no longer allowed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, ten siblings, her husband, K. T. Thompson, her infant son, Rabon K. Thompson, and her daughter, Brenda Joyce Thompson.
Mrs. Thompson was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She leaves a lasting legacy of love through her children and the family who cherish her memory:: Betty J. Simmons (Riley Simmons, II), Velinda Mathis (Charles Mathis), Glenn Thompson (Toni Thompson), Kenneth Wayne Thompson (Marcella Thompson), Elaine Thompson Jimeson (Robert Jimeson), and Rob Thompson (Tracy Thompson); her sister, Bertha McGaskey Ellis; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
