Theodore Calhoun Robbins' Obituary
Theodore “Ted” Calhoun Robbins, age 83, joined our Lord on Tuesday, January 9th, 2018, in Dallas, Texas. Ted was born in Boston, MA on March 25, 1934, to Helen and Charles Robbins. He was the second of three children.Ted was raised in Waterville, Maine and attended Waterville High School where he played Varsity Basketball. After high school, he was accepted to Tufts University on a Naval ROTC scholarship. Ted graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. In 1955 he accepted a commission from the US Navy, earned his wings in 1957 and became a naval aviator. During his time in the Navy, he met Ann Elise Carothers. In 1959 they married in Norfolk, VA.After his naval career, Ted joined General Electric in Syracuse, NY. While in New York, he and Ann had three children, Susan, Karen and Tom. In 1967, the family moved to Lake Highlands in Dallas, Texas where Ted accepted a position with Texas Instruments as a Systems Engineer. While at TI, Ted earned his Ph.D. in Systems Engineering and Operations Research from Southern Methodist University, in 1972. Ted was promoted to the Sr. Technical Staff in the mid-1980s. Around 1991, Ted joined The MITRE Corp. to complete his career in engineering.Ted was a gifted writer and loved to craft poems for family and friends. At Halloween, he thrilled trick-or-treaters with his intricately carved pumpkins. Ted loved spending time with his family playing games, watching sports, working on projects and snow skiing. Upon retirement he spent as much time as possible playing bridge and mastering the art of watercolors. Ted was creative, artistic, quick witted and loved by many friends.Ted is preceded in death by his parents Helen and Charles Robbins and his sister JoAnne Robbins Grafe. Ted is survived by his brother David B. Robbins; daughters Susan Catherine Robbins Demopulos and husband John Demopulos, and Karen Elizabeth Robbins Maples, and son Thomas Charles Robbins and wife Kathleen Clark. He is also survived by granddaughters Natalie Noebel, Jordan and Perri Demopulos, Madelyn Maples, and Finley and Brynna Robbins.A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Lake Highlands United Methodist Church, 9015 Plano Road, Dallas, Texas, 75238.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
