Theodore "Ted" True's Obituary
Ted Walter True died to this world and went straight into the arms of Jesus on March 18, 2018. A memorial service will be Saturday, March 24 at 11 am in Dallas at Restland Memorial Park. The Rev. Dave Cooper will officiate.Ted was born August 15, 1935 to L Hand Rose V True in Houston. He joined his older brother Curtis. His sisters Leslie Rose and Sally completed the family. They moved to Love Ridge Farm in Lancaster where Ted experienced all aspects of farm life. It was here that his love of the outdoors, animals and horses began.They moved to Dallas during his elementary years where Ted attended Highland Park Schools. In high school Ted played middle linebacker. He met his future wife, Johnnie Sue, known as Sis, in junior high. They dated in high school and married June 26, 1953 after graduating from Highland Park.Ted and Sis moved to Kingsville to attend Texas A&I. Their daughter Sue Anne, was born in 1954 during their years at Texas A&I where Ted completed his degree in petroleum engineering. After they graduated, Ted worked for Mobil Oil Co. Their son, Walt, was born in 1959 in Dallas. Ted was transferred to Venezuela by Mobil Oil a few months after Walt’s birth where Ted and his family lived for a year.In 1960, Ted and his family moved to Athens where he put down roots. He worked for John Murchison as manager of his oil and gas operations, overseeing drilling, production and transportation. Later Ted went into business for himself hauling crude oil and petroleum products, drilling wells and building pipelines. His business reached from East Texas to Amarillo, New Mexico and Alaska. Ted developed the initial plans for the All American Pipeline Co.Ted was a rancher and cowboy at heart. He and Sis loved spending time at the family ranch with Sue Anne and Walt and their families. Nothing pleased him more than to hunt at the ranch with his family and lifelong friends. Ted taught Sis how to hunt when she was 16 and that became something they enjoyed together for many years. Sis was his lifelong love. She knows every story and was a part of many of t hem. Sis has always been his heart beat. On June 26t h, they would have been married 65 years. A highlight of their life was hunting in Kenya and Tanzania. Ted and Sis also enjoyed snow skiing. Favorite family memories were Christmas vacations in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Ted loved hunting with Walt in Texas, New Mexico and Africa. Fishing with Walt and son-in-law Curtis in Alaska were high points for him. Time with his grandchildren and great -grandchildren gave him much joy. For many years Sis and Ted were blessed by her sister Fredna and husband Wendell to stay in their condo at Trail West in Colorado.Ted was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Curtis True and Leslie Rose Vesper. Ted is survived by his wife Sis, daughter Sue Anne and husband Curtis, son Walt and wife Cheryl and sister Sally. His grandchildren Chris and wife Sarah, Scott and wife Natasha, Kirk and wife Lauren and Katie survive him as well as his great-grandchildren known as “The Greats”: Noelle, Jared, Kyle, Harper and Jackson. Ted was also privileged to have a loving relationship with his sister-in-law Fredna and husband Wendell and as well as many nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to: Legacy Outfitters, PO Box 24161 Waco, TX 76702 or to Trail West Lodge 18800 Trail West Drive, Buena Vista, CO 81211 “In Memory of Ted True.” Checks to Trail West Lodge will help military families spend a week at a Young Life Family Camp this summer. Donations may also be made to Alzheimer’s Disease Research.
