Thomas Oliver Bailey Sr.'s Obituary
Thomas Oliver Bailey, 87, of Dallas, Texas went to be with the Lord on January 19, 2021 due to COVID-19 complications. He was born in Dallas on September 3, 1933 to Thomas Burke and Esther Wayne Bailey. He spent his entire childhood in Dallas, attending Woodrow Wilson High School, where he graduated in 1950. After graduation he attended Shriner Institute and then transferred to the University of Texas in the fall of 1951. While at the University of Texas, he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He married his High School sweetheart, Barbara, on September 12, 1952 and moved back to Dallas to complete his accounting degree at Southern Methodist University.
The family moved to the Lake Highlands area in 1959. He worked as a Certified Public Accountant for 65 years, opening his own practice in 1982. As one of his former clients shared with family, accounting is not funny, but Tom was. He frequently used humor and his sweet, kind, gentle spirit to make strong connections with those he knew both personally and professionally. He was a long time member of Rotary Club of Park Cities. He was a member of Dallas Executive Association for 41 years serving on the Board of Directors and Past President and where he made many special friends and business associates.
Tom is preceded in death by his love Barbara, his parents Burke and Wayne Bailey, a grandson, Kyle Pace and a great grand daughter, Caroline Hayes. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Malcolm and Patsy Bailey, his four children and their spouses, Debby and George Kondrach, Carole and Keith Robison, Thomas Jr. and Cindy Bailey, and Susan and Mark Pace. He was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and several special cousins.
Family was the most important thing to he and Barbara and time spent with family brought them great joy. From the time Tom was young, his faith and church were an important part of his life. In High School he became active in Young Life and continued throughout his adult life to financially invest in the ministry. He enjoyed many outdoor activities including camping, hunting, tennis and both snow and water skiing. He was an avid football fan with his two favorite teams being the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to Lake Highlands Young Life.
