Thomas Joseph Greico's Obituary
Surrounded by his family and loved ones, Thomas Joseph Greico passed away on Saturday, January 12th, 2018. A designer/builder extraordinaire, observer of architecture, student of construction, master of good taste and a damn nice guy, Tom was one of Dallas’ leading architects and builders, designing and building scores of homes. Born in Columbus, Ohio, on March 19th, 1958, he moved to Dallas at a young age, attending St. Rita’s Catholic School and W.T. White High School. After graduating from the School of Architecture at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) in 1983, Tom opened his own home-building business.Tom helped pioneer modern home-building in North Texas, becoming one of the first in Dallas to design and build customized modern homes. Tom’s vision inspired many other builders and architects to follow suit, and he leaves behind an impressive legacy. Since founding Greico Modern Homes in the late 2000s, he has built in excess of 40 homes. His signature design evokes the essence of mid-century modern homes built in the late 1950s and 1960s, featuring buttresses and cantilevered roof lines as well as minimalist form and function. His homes have a unique architectural style in and of themselves as an expression of Tom’s vision. His homes were often showcased in both the Parade of Homes and the White Rock Tour of Homes.Predeceased by his loving parents Anita Chance and Frank A. Greico (AKA ‘The Old Man’), Tom is survived by his beloved daughter Jessica Greico (AKA ‘The Kid’); his granddaughter Zoe; his brother Frank and nephews Carl and Larry; his brother Ron and his wife Carol, nephew Ron Jr. and daughter Grace; niece Christy Greico Smith and her husband Jeremy, and their children Katie, Parker and Preston; his former wife and dear friend, Sharon Greico; and his partner of 10 years, Elaine Raffel.A Memorial Service is planned for Wednesday, January 30 at 2:30 at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas TX 75243 (469) 925-1436.
