Thomas Alois Lootens' Obituary
Lootens, Thomas A.
Tom passed away on June 8. Born on April 2, 1940, in Moline, IL, to Al and Jeanette Lootens, Tom attended Sacred Heart and Alleman Catholic High School, followed by St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA. It is there where he met the love of his life, Rosemary Doyle, at a mixer dance. Tom and Rosemary married June 16, 1962.
Shortly after getting married, Tom began work at the H.J. Heinz Company until retirement. During his 30+ year career, he and his family lived in Chicago, Detroit, Syracuse, Hartford, Milwaukee, and finally Dallas.
Upon the move to Dallas, Tom, Rosemary and their three children began attending St. Patrick Catholic Church and School. He was an active volunteer for both, serving as a trusted leader of several groups within his Catholic community. Tom was also able to influence the lives of countless young men and women as a coach for his children’s various sporting activities and events.
Tom was a tremendous man of faith. His deep belief in God was the core of his existence. It fostered his other pillar of “family first”. Tom worked hard and sacrificed what he could to improve the lives of his family. If you knew Tom, you also knew he loved to travel, was an avid Dallas Cowboys’ fan, and enjoyed spending time at his lake house.
Tom is survived by his wife Rosemary, son Tim Lootens and his wife Anne, daughter Amy Sorensen and her husband Patrick, his daughter-in-law Marjorie Lootens, his seven beautiful grandchildren, Sean, Katie, Emily and Molly Lootens, and Matthew, Allie and Emma Sorensen. He is also survived by his dear sisters and brothers, Judi Yeager (Dick), Kathy Loess (Scott), Michael (Sue), Patrick (Therese (dec.)), and Terry (Debbie) Lootens, and several nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. He is preceded in death by his dear and eldest son, Marty Lootens, his parents Al and Jeanette Lootens, and sister and brother in-law, Pat and John Teninty. Tom was truly loved by all his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jesuit College Preparatory School, 12345 Inwood Rd., Dallas, TX, 75244, (972-387-8700) to a scholarship in Marty’s name.
Services will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 9643 Ferndale Rd., Dallas, on Thursday, June 16. Visitation will begin at 1:00, with the rosary and eulogies held at 1:30. The funeral mass will follow at 2:00 pm.
