Thomas Lowell McClarnon's Obituary
Thomas Lowell McClarnon Jr., 76, of Garland, passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2020 with his devoted wife Martha by his side.
Tom was born June 5, 1944 in Wichita, Kansas the son of Thomas “Bus” and Elva (Olson) McClarnon. He grew up with two beloved sisters, Teresa and Susan, in Wichita. He graduated from Emporia State in 1966 with a Bachelor’s degree and in 1968 with a Master’s degree. Tom married Janet Renz in college and had 4 children while living in Kansas City. Life brought him to Texas in 1982 and he married Martha Walker on March 17,1984. Tom and Martha had a son. The family, along with many others, have lost a wonderful human being. He approached life at full throttle whether drinking a cup of coffee while reading the paper, doing 1 of 1000 projects around his house or helping a family member. Thursday night bowling, softball with the Moonshiners, basketball on the driveway with the grandkids, or settling in with a box of popcorn and a Coors Light to cheer on his favorite teams were an everyday joy. Tom’s favorite trips were visiting his parents in Wichita and the yearly adventure to Coffeyville Kansas for the 4th of July reunion. Forever a smile on his face, his sense of humor and love of life will be greatly missed.
Tom spent his career as a teacher. His journey began in Kansas City, then west to Southern California, a return to Kansas City and then settled in Texas where he spent 25 years with the Richardson Independent School District. He never passed up the chance to earn an extra dollar moonlighting as a housepainter & handyman all his life.
Family was everything to Tom and those who will miss him most include his wife Martha, his son Matt (Cindy), his son Mike (April), his daughter Amy (David) Hiatt, his daughter Emily (Brent) Keating and his son Daniel (Desalee). Grandchildren: Austin, Brandon, Zach, Nick, Nathan, Hayden, Leon, Haylee and Destanie. His sisters and in-laws: Teresa (Wynn) Aker, Susan (Kent) Brown and Paula (Steven) Baker. Many nieces and nephews adored are Chanda, Jocelyn, Eric, Jessie, Abby, Sarah, Shannon, Mandy, David and Micah.
Preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Elva McClarnon, his granddaughter Ashley Nicole, brother in law Kent Brown and son in law David Hiatt.
