I just learned about Tom’s passing from the RRSP newsletter. Tom and I canoed a stretch of the Brazos River during an administrators conference one August. I never saw him that he wasn’t cheerful and upbeat. Great person and a good leader.

My heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Kay, Leah, Jayden, Kendal his other family members and many friends.. I met Tom in 1962 when I was 13. He had a tremendous impact that influenced me throughout my life. My love of the guitar and music, kool cars, boats, motorcycles, tennis and white German shepherds can all be attributed to Tom's influence.
I shared some unique experiences with Tom. For example, he traded me a 22 caliber 6-shot revolver and a pregnant white German Shepard for my speaker cabinet in 1963. We lived in a very different world back then. My son was a student at Dobie when Tom was principal and likewise has many inspirational memories.
I kept in touch with Tom throughout the years. Later in life, I too became a teacher and taught for 57 semesters at El Centro College. Can't help to think Tom had something to do with that as well.
His celebration of life was beautiful. Thanks to all that made it so special!
Coach Savay was our 6th grade coach at Richardson Jr High 1962-63. He like Jerry Pittman taught us the game of Basketball. He cared less if we won a game instead coaching and teaching us the fundamentals of the game so we would be ready for our Jr High years. Tom lived right off campus so we got to use the gym quite a bit that year and as I remember went to the lake in his boat once or twice. I even got to teach at Richardson Jr High from 1978-1996. Tom Savay is one of the many teachers of RISD that made the school district what it is today. We are sorry for your loss. From Bruce Mundy and Jack Morgan

Kay, Leah, and Savay family - I am so sorry for the passing of Tom. Tom was always such a fun father and allowed all of Leah's friends to come along! The house with the best snacks, fun trips to the cabin, State Fair days, and hearing tales of his motorcycle trips! He will be missed but, certainly made such a mark on those in his life!
