Thomas Simpson's Obituary
Born on July 21, 1936 ln Santa Anna, Texas to Tom and Elizabeth Wylie Simpson. He died on December 27, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his daughter, Tracy Lynn Simpson. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy; his son, Thomas Lee and his wife, Karen and his granddaughter, Madilynn Grace; brothers, Davis Wylie Simpson and Robert Eugene Simpson; and several nieces and nephews. Tom attended high school in Mathis, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1959 with a degree in mathematics. After working for several years at Edwards Air Force Base, California, he joined IBM where he achieved the highest technical recognition offered by IBM by being named an IBM Fellow. Tom designed the operating system for large scale computers for IBM which included design for the Apollo Mission to the Moon. In 1979 he joined the Amdahl Corporation, a multinational computer manufacturer, as Technical Director of the corporation. He retired in 1995. He was a voracious reader and loved to solve puzzles.
