Thomas Stirling Stone's Obituary
Thomas Stirling Stone, 81, of Parker, TX passed away peacefully at his home in Parker on September 1, 2016. He was born November 10, 1934, in Little Rock, AR, the son of Mary (Stirling) Stone and Thomas J Stone. Tom grew up in Shreveport, La. and began his distinguished career with the US Marine Corps; returned to college and graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.S) degree in Civil Engineering from Louisiana Tech University. He became a registered professional engineer and land surveyor in Texas, Louisiana, and Maryland, having some forty (40) years of experiences in various businesses in the design and construction of railroads, pipelines, roadways, bridges, and aerial photogrammetric mapping. He retired for the City of Richardson after some fifteen (15) years as a Capital Projects Engineer on many city improvements and coordinated many joint projects with County, State, and Federal funding with Dallas and Collin Counties, Texas Dept. of Transportation (TXDOT), Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), Kansas City Southern (KCS) and Southern Pacific (SP) Railroads, and the Corps of Engineering. An active member of the First United Methodist Church of Richardson, Network of Community Ministry, and Life Member of Dallas Woods and Waters Club where he served as President in 1995 & 1996. Tom and his wife Annette moved to Parker where he served on the Parker (P&Z) Commission 2005-2013. He was elected 2013 to the Parker City Council and reelected in 2015 and served until July 2016 when he resigned due to health. Preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Carolyn Sherman Stone. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Annette Oxford Stone, brothers, James (Bud) Stone, Robert (Bob) Stone and wife Judy, daughters, Susan Stone Webb and husband Randy Webb and Cynthia Stone Thompson and one Son, Shane Michael Stone, grandson – Trent Thompson and granddaughter Tessa Thompson. A visitation will be held at Restland Funeral Home on Monday, Sept 5 from 5 – 7 and a memorial service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held on Sept 6 at 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church Richardson. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Richardson.
