Thomas Garrett "Tom" Beene's Obituary
BEENE, THOMAS GARRETT “TOM”, 85, of Garland Texas went to be with his lord on January 22, 2014. He was born October 23, 1928 in Bynum, Texas to Hollis and Lela Beene. Tom was a proud member of the United States Army and a veteran of the Korean War. After the war he held sales positions in various industries, predominantly food service, for which he won national recognition. Tom is survived by his wife of 61 years, Wanda, sons Gary and Rob and their wives Margaret and Karen. Tom has two grandsons Garrett and Collin who were the sunshine in his life. He is also survived by sisters Francis Brown, Elaine White, Vera Johnson, Peggy Hunsaker, and brother Buddy Beene as well as many other nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by sisters Novelle Cornelius, Irene Hahn, Jimmie Rush, Gene Bowie, and niece Joanne Wilms. Tom was a devout member of the Saturn Road Church of Christ for 48 years. Tom loved reading the Bible and singing vintage acapella gospel music. Tom enjoyed watching western movies and listening to the Grand Ole Opry. Tom never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone with deeds of love or words of encouragement. Tom leaves a legacy of hard work and determination to always do the right thing. He will be missed greatly. Services will be held at 2:30 PM, Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Saturn Road Church of Christ with visitation starting at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saturn Road Church of Christ / Missions, 3030 Saturn Road, Garland, TX 75041.
