Dr. Thomas Wayne Watson's Obituary
HEATH, TX- Dr. Thomas Wayne Watson, 76, was born to parents, James F. and Elouise Cornett Watson on June 18, 1941 in Clarksville, Texas. Dr.Tom met his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and was reunited with his parents in Heaven on April 1, 2018 in Dallas, Texas.Tommy Watson began his life in the corner of a small farm house in the Sherry Community outside Clarksville, TX. Born to a close knit hard working share cropper family, he learned the meaning of hard work and sacrifice from an early age. His family moved to Oak Cliff while Tommy was in elementary school. He attended Boude Storey Jr. High where he met a little girl named Barbara Brown, for whom he would spend the rest of his life loving. Tommy went to W.H. Adamson High School where he would become a starting Linebacker #56 at 6’6” tall he was highly recruited by the University of Oklahoma to play for Bud Wilkerson. At 17 years old tragedy struck Tommy by way of a horrific car accident in which five people would perish one being his mother. Tommy was severely injured in the car accident and spent seventeen months in the hospital. The promising football career was over. While he recovered from the accident his dad lost his battle with tuberculosis. Tommy went to East Texas State University after he graduated from Adamson in 1960. He would join Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and eventually marry his Jr. High sweetheart Barbara Brown in 1964. He worked for Scott Paper Company while waiting to gain admittance to Baylor College of Dentistry. In 1966 his world would change again with the birth of a beautiful baby girl named Angela Kay Watson AKA booger.Tommy became Dr. Tom after he graduated from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1970 while living in Mesquite, TX. Dr. Tom decided to open his dental practice in Mesquite, TX there he would build a practice based on treating everyone better than he would want to be treated and like members of a very big family. His small town Red River County roots helped him to relate to his patients and genuinely care. He never lost sight of where he came from especially after he became successful. Dr.Tom had an addition to his family in 1974 named Matthew Wayne Watson. While living in Mesquite Dr.Tom was a member of the First Baptist Church and would eventually become a Deacon. In 1978 Dr. Tom and family moved to Forney, TX because he wanted to get back to the country.While in Forney Dr.Tom enjoyed working with quarter horses and became active with the booster club travelling to all football games to watch his daughter perfom with the drill team. He also enjoyed travelling to Cocoa, Fl to drive airboats on the St. John River and Lake Poinsett catching alligators barehanded and fishing with friends.Enjoyed watching his son play football and being his other linebacker coach. Attended every practice and game his son played.Dr.Tom was an avid golfer and loved playing all over America with his son Matt. Especially the The Judge course in Prattville, Al. Loved deer hunting, fishing, sang bass in Revelation Quartet, enjoyed genealogy, country and western music (not new pop country), Gospel music. Enjoyed going for “rides” to Red River County and Oak Cliff and reminiscing. Loved a full Saturday of college football and watching his favorite golf tournament The Master’s.Dr. Tom was a cosmetic and general Dentist for 48 years with a private practice in Mesquite, Texas. He referred to his practice as a family practice and treated his patients as family members. He served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Mesquite, TX. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at Texas A&M Commerce (formerly East Texas State University), Texas Dental Association, and American Dental Association. He was also a Deputy Sheriff in Dallas County Sheriff’s Posse.Dr. Tom is preceded in death by his parents James F. and Elouise Cornett Watson.Dr. Tom is survived by his loving jr. high sweetheart of 53 years Barbara Ann Watson of Heath, Texas, daughter Angela Watson of Forney, Texas, son and best friend Matt Watson and wife Dian and granddaughter Grace Ann Watson of Rockwall, Texas. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten by all who knew and loved him.The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Restland Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Restland Funeral Home.
