Dr. Thomas E. Wilson's Obituary
Dr. Thomas “Tom” Eugene Wilson, age 76 of Red Oak, Texas passed away on Friday, August 2, 2019 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on August 4, 1942 to Vernon Wilson and Frances Estes in Austin, Texas. Tom married Brenda Mangrum on September 2, 1966 in Dallas, Texas. He was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God for fifty-five years pastoring three churches, including Calvary Temple in Mesquite, Texas (1966-1976), Central Assembly in Austin, Texas (1976-1988), and Oaks Church in Red Oak, Texas (1988-2006). Dr. Wilson’s vision to provide a tuition free charter school launched Life School of Dallas, where he served as Founder and Superintendent (1998-2010). Life School was one of the first charter schools established in Texas, and Dr. Wilson was responsible for helping other educational leaders launch at least fifteen other charter schools across Texas. His commitment to the transforming power of education was demonstrated through his own determination to complete his doctorate in education at age 62.Tom is survived by his wife Brenda; sons, W. Scott Wilson and wife Jenni of Midlothian, Texas, T. Brent Wilson and wife Kirsten of Midlothian, Texas, Bracy Wilson and wife Nadine of Frisco, Texas, and Dallas Wilson and wife Lindsey of Houston, Texas; sister, Mary Wilson-Keener; brother, Vernon E. Wilson Jr.; and ten grandchildren.His life and legacy will continue because of the strong foundation he created and the impact he made on thousands of students, staff, and families. Tom was a hero and a giant. He dreamed big dreams and leaned on a big God who helped them come about. He fought his fight. He ran his race. He finished strong. Generations will stand on his shoulders.Visitation for Mr. Wilson will be on Monday, August 5, 2019 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Oaks Church in Red Oak, Texas.
