Thuc Da Huynh's Obituary
Thuc Huynh was born in Phan Thiet in Democratic South Viet Nam on the 15th of August 1942. He was the youngest in a family of 11 brothers and sisters. He grew up loving school, playing soccer and tennis, and helping his family by helping his sisters prepare food to sell at the market as income for the household. He was very involved in Vietnamese Scouts, and the strong sense of community and service that the organization embodied. He eventually became a geography teacher where he taught elementary school first then became the Principal for TAY SON High School, in Thu Duc, South Viet Nam. As a dedicated educator and committed Boy Scout leader, he formed many deep lasting relationships and earned profound respect, love and loyalty from ALL of his students and fellow scouts. Many of his former students who escaped from Viet Nam to live in the US or Europe sought to connect with him and continue to show him the same respect and affection. In the 1970s, he travelled to Berlin, Germany where he lived a few years. He eventually moved to the United States in 1987 where he met and married his wife Nga Pham. They moved to Texas and had two children, a boy and a girl. They lived in Houston, Austin and settled in Dallas for the remaining years. He worked in the food service industry at public schools in order to have more time to raise his children at home. Even in the school cafeteria, many students appreciated his special efforts to make food for those with dietary restrictions and preferences. Further from home than ever, he continued to share his love for geography by travelling with his family each year, maintained his involvement in Vietnamese Scouts organizations in America, and became deeply involved with volunteering at local Buddhist temples. His wisdom, compassion and strength has inspired many students and people in his community, and he embodied those characteristics up until the day that he passed on the 2nd of February 2017. He is survived by his daughter Truc and his wife Nga, who love him very much. He will be deeply, deeply missed, but his positive influence lives on the minds and hearts of the many people he inspired. Mr. Huynh will lie in state on Sunday, February 19, 2017 and Monday, February 20, 2017 in Staterooms S-T at Restland Funeral Home. Visitation hours will be between the hours of 9:00 am and 8:00 pm each day. Buddhist Funeral Ceremony will be Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
