Tommie C Dillehay Jr.'s Obituary
Tommie (Tom) Clint Dillehay, Jr., of Dallas, Texas, passed away on April 21, 2018, at the age of 88.Tom was born to parents Tommie Clint Sr. and Opal Dillehay on December 2, 1929, in Parker, Texas. He grew up an only child and played basketball and football at Plano High School. He attended Austin College on a basketball scholarship before entering the United States Army in 1951, serving as a Corporal and helping to rebuild the infrastructure of post-WWII Europe. Upon completion of his military service, Tom returned to Texas to work for Western Electric/AT&T; after 46 years with AT&T he retired as Operations Director in 1995, though he continued working periodically as a consultant for Lucent Technologies. His retirement was spent playing golf, traveling and spending time with family and his many friends. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh and witty remarks which were never in short supply. Among his family, friends, and caretakers he is famous for yelping out a “Whoop! Whoop!” or a “What U Say?”, particularly while holding court at Big Fish in downtown Grapevine or at Windsor Senior Living’s Friday happy hour. Tom is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Dugger (Scott) of Dallas, Texas; his son, Bryan Dillehay (Ashley) of Las Vegas, Nevada; and two granddaughters, Olivia Dugger and Eden Dillehay. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tommie and Opal, and his grandson, Andrew Thomas Dillehay.A celebration of life will be held on Monday, June 4, 2018, at 12:30 PM in Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 2:30 at Dallas – Fort Worth National Cemetery. The family is grateful for the condolences but declines flowers and donations.
