Tony Hung Chau's Obituary
Tony Hung Chau passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, in Frisco, Texas, at the age 84. He had a kind spirit and a brave heart. He had an inquisitive mind and loved to learn every day from everyone and everything. He loved socializing and spoke four languages: Chinese, Vietnamese, French, and English. Tony met Helen in 1966 and they subsequently married and raised four children. He worked hard his whole life and owned a successful business. He spent his entire savings to get his immediate family, in-laws, and relatives to America and Australia after the Fall of Saigon in 1975. The journey from Vietnam to America was filled with tribulations and risks with no guarantees for survivals; but he made sure that everyone survived the journey and reached America in spite of all the obstacles encountered along the way. The Chau family reached America and arrived in Houston, Texas 1979 when Tony was 41 years old. Tony had to start all over; he learned English on his own and spent nights translating each word from English to Chinese. Ever the hard worker and devoted father, Tony was able to move his family from renting apartments to owning a house in Sugar Land, Texas in 1983, which allowed his children to attend a better school district. He worked for Western Atlas International Company from 1979 until his retirement in 1997. He drove for 2 hours each way every day and worked all different shifts so his day could start at 4am or 8pm. Tony began as a janitor and worked his way up through various positions in the Plastic Injection Molding Machine Department and eventually to Lead Man. He said that he was very fortunate to work for very good bosses who were very kind to him. During a significant portion of his retirement years, Tony and Helen traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and many countries in two other continents.
He was a caring and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend and was fiercely devoted to family. His politeness and sense of humor will always be remembered and he lived a blessed life. Tony will be immensely missed by those who survive him: wife, Helen; daughter, Amy; daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Sushil Pathi; son and daughter-in-law, David and Mary Jane; grandchildren, Quinn and Owen; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and John Hunt; and sister, Josephine; as well as other extended family and friends. Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Ky Chau and Thank Ba Tran; brother, Victor, and son, Frank.
