Tony Tien Shan Kung's Obituary
Tony Tien Shan Kung, 87, of Plano, Texas, peacefully entered his heavenly home on April 13, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born November 20, 1936 in China.
Tony, a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather is survived by his daughters, Ilan and Veronica; son-in-law Roger; granddaughters Hannah, Bethany, and Elizabeth; grandsons Joshua and Elijah; four brothers; and four sisters. Tony was predeceased by his wife, Susan; his son, Jeffery; his parents; and his youngest brother.
Upon graduation from high school, Tony joined the Taiwan Whampoa Military Academy to serve his country, retiring as a major. While in the military, Tony met Susan on a blind date and married soon after on November 18, 1969.
In 1975, Tony came to America in obedience to his father's wishes, bringing his young family to settle in Tulsa, Oklahoma near his brother Tom Kung and his family. Tony worked hard to provide for his family in his adopted country. He instilled a strong work ethic, honesty, fairness, love, support and compassion to those who knew him.
A father who always encouraged his children to ask "why", Tony began his spiritual journey with many questions but came to know His Heavenly Father and put his trust in Jesus on Mother's Day 1990. Tony and Susan attended Dallas Chinese Bible Church where they grew in community and devotedly served in the Mandarin Fellowship.
As a child, Tony had a passion for theater and the arts, directing his siblings in original plays. As a father and grandfather, he enjoyed taking videos and pictures of family, documenting the sweet and everyday events of life. He enjoyed working with his hands and making improvements on his home and garden.
Even though Tony faced many challenges, he persevered and kept a positive outlook, accepting situations as they came which was a testimony to his strong character. Tony' s deep love for his family was evident in his words and actions.
