Tony Zamanillo's Obituary
Antonio Zamanillo, age 72, son of Antonio Zamanillo Sr. and Catherine Williams was born August 8, 1944 in Buena Vista, a small town outside of Havana, Cuba. He is survived by his younger sister, Margarita Williams-Blount. Antonio Zamanillo moved to New Orleans, LA at the age of 14. In efforts to attend a private school, Antonio shined shoes in the New Orleans French Quarter to pay for his education. As a result, he graduated at St. Augustine High School in 1965; a place where his sons would later follow in his footsteps. Antonio was drafted in the Army at 20 years-old. While serving his country, Antonio received the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter Badge and served as a Kitchen Supervisor. In 2004 Antonio married Genevieve Zamanillo in New Orleans, LA. Other thanserving our country, Antonio Zamanillo served a butcher for over 30 yearsbetween The Royal Sonesta and Arnaud’s Restaurant. He was considered the“last butcher” in the New Orleans French Quarter retiring in 2005 because of Hurricane Katrina. That year, he and Genevieve moved to Plano,Texas where he loved to garden, watch movies, read and spend time withgrand-kids. He was a devoted father and step-dad, a wonderful husband,incredible grandfather (Paw-Paw) and he was a believer. He was a member ofShiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Antonio passed away on April 30, 2017. Antonio is survived by his wife Genevieve Zamanillo; his children; Yeshiya (Makeba) Hillel and Lucas (Christy) Zamanillo, Carnell (Brenda) Massey, whom he shared with former spouse Leola Zamanillo. Genevieve’s children; Janelle and Anjeanette McKnight and Tiffany andTommie (Octavia) Brasly. He leaves behind a host of devoted grandchildren,nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We give thanks for his life.
