Travis McKindree Slagle's Obituary
Travis M. Slagle, 90, of Dallas passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011 at the home where he lived for more than 50 years. He is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Marchbanks Slagle of over 55 years, parents Marvin and lena Slagle of Cleburne, sister Rhoda Bell Lawrence of Fort Worth and brother-in-law Joe Marchbanks of Cleburne. Travis was born near Cleburne, Texas on November 2, 1920 and attended schools in Cleburne. Travis attended John Tarleton College in Stephenville his first two years and as World War II progressed he joined the Merchant Marines and was stationed in the Philippines. After returning from the Merchant Marines, Travis completed his undergraduate degree in Geology at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. Travis began his career in the Petroleum Business working with several companies as geologist, land man and driller. After several years he became a successful independent geologist wildcatting in many areas of Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. Travis is survived by his sister Zetta Parkey of Waco, sons Stephen B. English and wife Patsy of Little Elm, Victor R. Slagle and wife Linda of EI Paso and daughter lena S. Fitzgerald and husband Leslie of Carrollton. Travis is also survived by six grandchildren Kristen Dodge of Houston, Jarrett Slagle of Dallas, Kristan Bannister of EI Paso, Whitney Fitzgerald of Carrollton, Alex Joyner of San Antonio, Stephen S. English, Jr of Birmingham, Alabama and six great grandchildren Isabel Dodge, Mason and Ruby Banister, Alex and Andrew English and Dillon Slagle. The Slagle Family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Autumn Journey, Dr. John L. Hollingsworth, Jr, Kim Lyons and Erin Shuford for their support and assistance during Mr. Sagle’s illness. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 5th at 12:30 p.m. in Restland Wildwood Chapel.
