Travis Terrell Wallace Jr.'s Obituary
Travis T. Wallace, Jr. passed away in Houston on Saturday, June 25, 2011 surrounded by his family. He was born on September 22, l935 in Dallas to his father Travis T. Wallace and mother Halcyon Miller Wallace. Travis was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Dr. Helen Wallace Oglesby of San Francisco, California. He is survived by his wife of 5l years, Judy Fisher Wallace. Travis was born in Dallas, but has fond memories of living with his mother in Santa Fe, New Mexico for some of his early years. They returned to Dallas where he graduated from Highland Park High School in 1956. He attended Phillips University in Enid, OK and Texas Christian University. Travis proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War with the 45th Infantry Division. He often wore his Korean War Veteran cap and was always interested in greeting and thanking other military veterans for their service. A faithful Christian, he was a member of Park Cities Presbyterian Church until he moved with Judy to be near M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. Travis was always a friendly, cheerful representative of his faith, which he willingly shared with others. He taught Sunday School for teenagers. He was truly “one of a kind”, and loved telling his favorite jokes to friends as well as strangers. Travis was a Life Underwriter for 50 years, starting his career at Great American Reserve Insurance Company, which was founded by his father and C. O. Hambleton. He is a past member of the Million Dollar Round Table, the Texas Leaders Round Table and the Dallas Association of Life Underwriters. Travis was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the American Legion and Gideons International. He was also a past Director of the Dallas Crime Commission and a past member of the Oak Cliff Lions Club. In addition to his wife, Travis is survived by his three children: daughter, Cynthia Gay Fox and husband Randy; son, Travis T. Wallace, III and wife Leslie; daughter, Julie Roberson and husband, Kendall Lee. His grandchildren are Meredith and Marshall Fox, Brooke and Rex Wallace, Whitney, Katie, Charlie and Carrie Roberson. Visitation will be at Restland Funeral Home Tuesday, June 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 29 at 2 p.m. at University Park United Methodist Church which will be preceded by the burial at 10:00 a.m at Restland. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials may be given to MD Anderson Cancer Center, PO Box 4486, Houston TX 77210, or Park Cities Presbyterian Church, 4124 Oak Lawn Ave., Dallas TX 75219.
