Truman G. Blocker III's Obituary
Truman G. Blocker Ill was born in Galveston Texas, the oldest son of two doctors. Truman and Katharine, his wife of 64 years, are blessed with seven children, twenty-four grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren (and counting). The Blockers made their home in North Dallas for 48 years as their kids grew up and had families of their own.
Truman obtained his Ph.D. in Physics and committed his early career to research and management at Texas Instruments. Dr. Blocker's notable contributions included receiver development for the FAA Air Traffic Control Radar, which is currently installed at major commercial airports around the world. In the early 1990s, Truman served as the Director of Corporate Relations at Cornell University and Director of Research Implementation at the Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC).
Truman found his true vocational passion in the mid-1990s in teaching and mentoring students. He joined the faculty of the DeVry Institute of Technology in 1994, where he mentored thousands of students while teaching Physics, Calculus, and Computer Science. He retired in September 2014 after 20+ years of service.
Truman intensely loved both knowledge and people and was known as an avid student of the Bible.
