Val Walter Mansfield Jr.'s Obituary
Val Walter Mansfield, Jr., age 98, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on May 21, 2025. Being predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years, Mary Deen Compton Mansfield, Val leaves behind a son, Val Walter Mansfield III (Cheryl), a daughter Laura Mansfield Paczewitz, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a sister Ann Rector, a sister-in-law Betty Compton, three nephews and two nieces.
Mr. Mansfield was a lifetime resident of Dallas, except for his last years at the Wellington, in Richardson. His great - grandparents came from Princeton, KY in 1870, making their homestead on land in the vicinity of what is now Old City Park. A city street nearby bears the family name.
He graduated from Sunset High School in the class of 1944, and entered SMU for a brief period before volunteering to join the U.S. Navy during WW II. Returning to SMU after the end of the war, he earned a degree in Business Administration and was a member of Kappa Alpha Order fraternity.
HIs business career began as Special Agent for the U.S. F. & G. Insurance Company. Later he entered the real-estate field as a commercial broker and appraiser, becoming a Member of the Appraisal Institute, and Dallas Board of Realtors. He was a former member of the Idlewild Club, Terpsichorean Club and past president of the Calyx Club.
