Gentzler, Valeta Faun's Obituary
Valeta Faun Young was born on November 2, 1931 to M.A. (Mutt) Young and Nina Harmon Young in Alfalfa Oklahoma and passed peacefully on July 8th, 2025 in Dallas Texas with family by her side.
Her family moved to the small town of Dalhart Texas when she was still a toddler.
Valeta went to Dalhart High School where she was on the basketball team and graduated as the Valedictorian. She was also active with the Church of Christ.
After graduation, she attended Abilene Christian College to get her degree in Laboratory Technology and Biology. She did her internship in Shreveport Louisiana. This is where she met her future husband, Frederick Gentzler. They were married on August 29, 1954 in Dalhart Tx and they were married for 68 years.
They moved to Abilene where they started their family and Fred began his education at ACC in accounting. They later moved to Dallas and completed their family.
Valeta was a very caring person. She loved everyone and everyone loved her too. She was very proud of her 4 children and supported them in all their adventures. She was active with the PTA and received a life-time membership.
She was very active in the church at Garland Road Church of Christ (later became Highland Oaks Church of Christ) where she loved to sing with the wedding/funeral group and was active with the class group. After all their children grew up, they settled in at Saturn Road Church of Christ.
Valeta loved helping others. She joined the local chapter of ALTRUSA and was a past president of this chapter. She helped with fundraisers and distributing needed items for a local elementary school and the community. Valeta and Fred loved traveling to the conventions with all the friends they had made.
She loved nature and enjoyed spending time at their farm in Loan Oak Texas. Her favorite part was her large garden and several fruit trees. After harvesting, you could soon expect fresh canned goods that she and Fred had made.
In her last few years, she grew tired and communicated less but still seemed to touch everyone’s heart through the stories they heard and from watching her with family. While she could, she would blow them kisses, hold their hands and smile. They knew what she was telling them. “They are special, and she loved them”.
Her faith in God was stronger than I have ever witnessed. Even at the end of her earthly life, she showed us the power of prayer and that God fulfills his promises.
Valeta is preceded in death by her husband Fred, her parents M.A. and Nina Young (Banner), her stepfather Royal Banner, her brother Burton Young, daughter Judith Gentzler, and grandchild Alexis Lancaster.
She is survived by her sons: Stanley Gentzler (Shea) and Stephen Gentzler (Venetia): daughter, Janean Caldwell (Bill); sister-in-law Emma Young; grandchildren: Chris Gentzler (Felicia), Cyra Phelan (Keith), Samantha Wolfe (Austin), Aaron Gentzler, Katie Petty, Logan McCormack, Candis Hackenjos and Laura Chiles (Nate): great-grandchildren: Carlee, Tristan, Mason, Kaylee, Isla, Beverly, Brooke, Cooper and Carley.
May her example and love for Christ shine through all that knew her.
