Velma Lee McCoy's Obituary
Welcome Family and Friends to this celebration of the life of Velma Lee McCoy from the beginning of time as she knew it here on earth to the beginning of time as she knew existed. Heaven, the place she has gone to and a place where we all will one day meet up with her and the rest of our loved ones. God chose Friday, October 16, 2015 at 8: 15 PM as her designated time to go home. At this very hour of this very day, Our Lord took our precious Mother home. By now, the Lord has found her name in the Book of Life and she has been granted permission by the Almighty to gain entrance through the pearly gates and into the Kingdom we shall all one day inherit. At this moment, we can only hope that she is holding her husband’s hand, and he is escorting her to all the areas of God’s Kingdom and re-introducing her to her family that has already gone on before her. Velma was a Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Cousin and Friend to one or more of us in this room today. She was a caring and loving woman. Having helped raise 9 siblings gave her the experience to go on and raise four children of her own, including one adopted son. Velma was the oldest of her family. Her brothers HD, Ksey, John Hught, and Vernon have preceded her in death. Her only living brother Pat Williams is currently residing in Hawkins. Her sisters Blanche and Vera Pearl have also gone on to be with our Lord and her two remaining sisters Molly Butherie and Mary Harvey reside in Dallas. Velma was born to Henry and Eunace Williams in Frankston, Texas on May 6, 1921. Velma met and married the man of her life Leroy McCoy in Frankston where they both were raised. They married on the 6th day of March in the year or our Lord 1937. Sadly, for our family, one day before their fiftieth wedding anniversary, God called him home. Velma lived 28 years after the love of her life passed away. She missed him dearly and never remarried. Today they are together again and will be for all eternity. During World War 11 when her husband Leroy left to go to war. She headed to New Jersey where he was stationed at and she herself, went into the work force. She did this to help supplement his pay while he was in the service. She accepted ajob at a porcelain factory where they made parts for lamps. She also did ironing for servicemen. Knowing Velma, I’m sure she prayed as she was a Godly woman and waited patiently for him to come home. God heard her prayers and sent him home to her. When her love came back to her, they moved to Dallas and called it home. They started a family and opened a small neighborhood store in Oak Cliff. His mother lived with them for a while and took care of the children. They had four beautiful children, Leroy Hanson McCoy (age 66), Roger Paul McCoy (age 63), Patricia Ann McCoy Trevino (age 61), their baby Jerry Wayne McCoy who has gone on to be with our Lord, and one adopted son Gene Williams McCoy, who has also gone on to be with our Lord. After marrying her first love, Leroy McCoy in 1937, they moved to Dallas where they raised their five children. She worked at Sears for 13 years, from 1970 until 1983 when she retired. She had many friends at Sears that she would occasionally visit even after her retirement. She was a Baptist, loved her God and attended church regularly. Velma was a wonderful gardener and loved her flowers. Everywhere she went, she left a field of flowers. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends. She loved her family and enjoyed her time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. When they closed their store, Leroy went to work for Sears as a TV repairman and she, in 1970, also went to work at Sears but as a Sears Packaging Clerk. She had many friends at Sears who have already gone on before her. Having known many of her friends myself (as she got me my first job at Sears as well), I know they would have nothing but kind and sweet things to say about her as that was her nature, to be sweet and kind to all she met and worked with. She was a very hard worker but in 1983 she decided to call it quits and stay home with the love of her life as he had gotten ill and was forced into retirement. .. They bought a motorhome and did a lot of traveling before slowing down and staying home. She loved their travels throughout the United States and she has MANY little knick knacks to prove it. A memory came to my mind as I was writing this and I recalled when her love decided to buy a motorhome, he did not tell her that he was going to buy it on this one particular day and surprised her with it. We were coming home from Sears and there “She” sat. The biggest motorhome I had ever seen. I am sure they had talked about buying one but she did not know that day would be the day. He wanted to surprise her. Boy did he surprise her. He had a big old smile on his face when we got out of the car and I can tell you that the look on her face was not of excitement. Do you know what I mean? You see, she was the money manager in her family and she worried that they would not be able to take care of their bills with this big old baby on their hands. But guess what? God provided. As He always does. Amen? She was a very good money manager. They were able to go from dirt poor to going and doing things they thought they never would be able to do in their life time. God Blessed Them!! Her children grew up, got married and made her a happy grandmother many times over. These five children presented her with nine beautiful grandchildren. And these nine beautiful grandchildren presented her with 26 great grandchildren. She was a loving and a caring grandmother. She was also a wonderful mother in law. She never interfered in our lives and let each of her children live the lives they had chosen for themselves. She let us all live and learn. Velma loved gardening and everywhere she lived, she left a field of flowers. She couldn’t pass a plant nursery without wanting to stop and just look and maybe buying just a little something that would eventually grow strong, bountiful, and beautiful. If God gives her just one minute alone in heaven, she will be planting something. Velma was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years Leroy McCoy of Frankston, Texas, son Jerry Wayne McCoy of Dallas, adopted son Gene Williams McCoy of Dallas, grandson Gene McCoy Jr., great granddaughter Rebecca McCoy, her parents Henry and Eunice Williams, siblings HD Williams, Kasey Williams, John Hught Williams, Vernon Williams, Blanch Williams and Vera Pearl all of Frankston. Velma is survived by her children and their spouses Leroy and Deanna of Tyler, Roger and Juanita McCoy of Tyler, and Patricia Trevino of Tyler, nine grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren along with one brother Pat Williams of Hawkins, two sisters, Molly Gutherie and Mary Harvey both of Dallas, as well as a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. We have lost our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend but heaven has gained an angel. Family will receive family and friends on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 2:00 – 5:00 at Restland Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Hospice of Tyler at 4111 University Blvd., Tyler Texas for their loving care and support of our loved one. The service for Velma Lee McCoy will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 12:30PM at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
