Venita Lue McHan's Obituary
Venita (Lue) McHan, formerly of Dallas, passed away at 4:11am, Sunday, April 27th at Lyndale Memory Care in Abilene, Texas.
Lue was born on December 11th, 1937, in Abilene, Texas to the late Arthur and Allie Mae Edington. Lue graduated from Abilene High School and attended Hardin Simmons before receiving her Bachelor’s and Master's degrees in Education from the University of North Texas.
In June of 1957, Lue married WC McHan, and they had two children, Susan & Steven. They resided in Abilene until 1964 when they moved to Dallas where they of course became avid Cowboy fans. They lived in Dallas for the remainder of their years together. WC passed away in 2012.
Lue taught elementary and middle school history in the Texas school system for over 30 years. She was incredibly smart and could rattle off the answers to most any Jeopardy question which she watched nearly every night. She also learned to play the violin when she was 11 years old, playing in the school orchestra all through high school and in church her entire life. She was an active member of Casa View Baptist Church for over 50 years where she attended weekly prayer groups, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and was a mainstay of her church community.
Lue loved sports and was extremely competitive. She was an avid golfer and loved playing with her regular golfing partners. She also played tennis, volleyball and softball (she was even in a church softball league with her daughter Susan) and she was still water skiing at age 75. She was a lifeguard and taught many of her nieces and nephews to swim. She loved to read and was a member of two book clubs - she also loved playing cards. She was an ace in Bridge Club and anytime the families got together, there was never any mercy in the games of Peanut, Dominoes or 42!
Lue loved the lake and spent a lot of time at her Fort Phantom family lakehouse. There were annual lake reunions with the Edington clan as well as the annual McHan family reunions which often consisted of close to 100 people. She also loved traveling with her grandchildren - they visited many places together, but her favorite was Hawaii.
Lue is survived by her daughter Susan (Kris), granddaughters Erin & Loren, sister Sue Siltman, many nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband WC, son Steven and her parents.
Friends may attend visitation from 10:15am (CST) until the time of the funeral service at 11am (CST) on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Casa View Baptist Church, 130 E. Interstate 30 in Garland, Texas. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery & Memorial Park in Dallas at 12:30pm in the Garden of Memories.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lue’s name to The Alzheimer’s Association, https://www.alz.org/
Arrangements entrusted to Restland Funeral Home.
