Verda Giles Grantham's Obituary
Verda Giles Grantham, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 16th, 2024. She had been an administrative school nurse for DISD and as the department lead of DISD’s Vision program for over 35 years.
She spent her formative years and graduated high school from Buckner Baptist Children's Home here in Dallas. She enrolled in Baylor University and earned her BSN. She completed her MSN at Texas Women’s University in Denton. She was involved with the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years.
She was a Pearl Level Member of The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She served as a Regent during her active years with her beloved DAR. Verda found pride in tracing her heritage to an ancestor who fought for America in the American Revolution. Verda was appointed, took on organizer and leadership roles for these organizations that she loved. She was always fundraising for Buckner Homes and for scholarships awarded by the Eastern Star and DAR.
Verda is survived by her daughter, Patricia Grantham Miranda, son-in-law Roland Miranda, of Nolanville, Texas; and Patricia’s son, Alexander Miranda of Salem, Oregon. Verda's son, John C. Grantham, John’s wife Sheryl Culver Grantham, and John’s daughter Audrey Grantham of Lewisville, Texas. She was preceded in meeting our Lord by her husband Marvin Lee Grantham (1990) and Patricia's eldest son, Marcus Patrick Allan Manny (2009).
Verda lived a full life. She met her one and only true love Marvin, while both were matriculating at Baylor University in Waco. She was wed to Marvin, on national televisions “The Bride and Groom Show” in New York City. The prize package included a honeymoon in New York. Aside from work trips to Washington D.C. on behalf of DISD, she enjoyed traveling with her fellow DISD nurses.
The viewing will begin at 1:00 PM followed by the Memorial Service held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 27, 2024, in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery.
