Verlin Hafer's Obituary
Verlin Hafer was born in the Muellersville community of Washington County, near Brenham, Texas, on November 9, 1921, to F. W. Rosenbaum and Malinda (Schuette) Rosenbaum. She was received into the Christian faith by the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on her mother’s birthday, December 15, 1921, at Salem Lutheran Church, officiated by Reverend William Utesch. He later confirmed her in that faith. She attended public school in the community and graduated from Brenham High School in 1939. On March 3, 1946, she was united in marriage with Clarence Hafer at Salem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Arthur Mohr officiating. They made their home in Dallas, Texas, where her husband was employed by Blue Diamond Company. There they became members of Trinity Lutheran Church, and she was active in the congregation for many years. Following a move, they became members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church on June 5, 1969. She remained active there as long as her health allowed. Most of her life was devoted to providing a loving home for her family, but she also worked at Duke and Ayres Variety, Agriculture Dept, Budnick Collection Agency, Bryan Army Airfield, and First Texas Bank. She went home peacefully to be with her Lord on March 28, 2016 at the age of 94 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Willie Rosenbaum of Brenham and T/Sgt. LeRoy Rosenbaum who was killed in action in Europe during World War II. Also preceding her in death, were two sisters, Erna Tegeler and Lenora Runge, both of Bellville, Texas. She will be greatly missed by two children, Carol Mayerhoff and her husband Paul of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Tim Hafer and his wife Frances, of Dallas. She was loving Grandma to three grandchildren, Wendy Zoch of Keller, Texas, Christina Ruby of Elm Springs, Arkansas, and Davin Mayerhoff of Dallas, as well as great-grandmother to Andrew and Naomi Zoch, Jacob and Eli Ruby, and Henry, Mary, and Burke Mayerhoff. Other friends, family and “almost family” members will also miss Verlin’s example of Christian faith as well as her positive outlook and grateful spirit. Services will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 11425 Marsh Lane in Dallas on Friday, April 1, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Richard Mayerhoff officiating. There will be a visitation preceding the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at Restland Memorial Park following the service. Memorials may be sent to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Dallas Shared Housing, or the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staff at El Dorado Assisted Living and Signature Pointe on the Lake for the loving care and friendship they provided for Mrs. Hafer during her later years. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted into Restland Funeral Home. 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243.
