Verna Jean Wilson's Obituary
Verna Jean (Jeffries, Miller) Wilson began her 90 year “worldly” journey in Ft. Worth, Texas the afternoon of December 31, 1925. She learned early in life to be independent…her father, William Richard Jeffries died due to a ruptured appendix when Verna was two. Her mom, Commie Ella McCracken Jeffries, was an outstanding role model of strength and independence as she raised Verna. Commie and Verna were blessed with the support, influence and love from their extended family of McCracken’s …brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins. Verna graduated from Hanley HS and subsequently completed one & one-half years of college before marrying Eugene Miller. They were blessed with a bouncing baby girl, Kathy Lin, in January 1951. As with her mom, Verna was challenged with raising a teenage daughter on her own following a divorce. Though difficult, Verna and Kathy met life head-on and with amazing faith…you see, they had their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ walking every challenging step with them. Mother and daughter formed a bond built on their relationship with Christ which will last an eternity. In July of 1970, Verna danced into the arms of a fella who would become the gentleman love of her life. Murphy Maurice Wilson literally swept her off her feet on the dance floor of the Winter Garden Ballroom. “Murph”, as everyone in the family endearingly called him, became a beacon of joy and life for Verna and Kathy. They shared together the marriage of Kathy to her life- long friend and high school sweetheart and the birth and early years of two precious grandchildren. Unfortunately, Murph cut short their worldly journey together when he died in December of 1986 following a difficult battle with cancer. Verna (who by now had accepted a new grandmother name: “Mimi”) focused her life on Christ, family and friends. She finally recognized that the redheaded fella, Ron Abney, that Kathy married was probably here to stay and extended him a little grace because of the two wonderful beacons of light he helped contribute…grandson Jeffrie Christian Abney and granddaughter Linsie Christin Abney. Wonderful family times abounded with her “little family”…trips, games, worship, hanging out and lots of laughter. Mimi’s joy increased with the addition of a daughter-in-law, Kristin Wilbanks Abney, and son-in-law, Jason Lee Goza. However, her joy virtually exploded with the onset of four great grandchildren: Clara Beth Abney, Lily Ashlin Goza, Miller Christian Abney and Camden Harris Goza! Her family was truly blessed with the life and times shared with Mimi during the ensuing years. Verna enjoyed the last 15 years of her journey with loving family, dear friends at Christian Care – Greenway, travel, bridge, bingo, word finds and reading. The glue that bound all that together was her faithful relationship and walk with her Lord. On April 12, 2016, Verna Jean Wilson began her Heavenly journey when Jesus called her home. Funeral Service will take place at 12 noon, Saturday, April 16, 2016 at The Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
