Vernell E. Stevens' Obituary
STEVENS, VERNELL E. died Monday, January 7, 2013 in her home with her family at the age of 93. Born on the family farm, September 4, 1919 in Ore City, Texas, she was the first child to parents, Andrew Jackson Ellison and Fannie Myrtle Orr Ellison. She moved to Dallas in 1947 and was an Oak Cliff resident for more than 65 years. She enjoyed her work life and excelled in every job she took on from retail sales to banking. She retired in 1992. Warm, friendly, fun, known for an infectious smile, she loved and was dearly loved in return. Survived by her son, Gayle Ollan Hicks and daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Hicks of Dallas, grandson, Lance Hicks of Dallas, granddaughter, Lorna Hicks Branciforte and husband John Branciforte of Orlando, Florida, sister, Bernice Blalock of Dallas, brothers, Waymon Ellison and Doyle Ellison of Ore City and sister-in-law, Lenova Ellison of DeSoto. She is also survived by her many beloved nephews and nieces and her cat “Deenie”. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Morine Kirby and her brother Colquitt Ellison. Pallbearers will be Lance Hicks, John Branciforte, Joe Blalock, Larry Blalock, Gary Blalock, Donny Ellison and Mike Ellison. Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Restland Abbey Chapel with visitation one hour prior at the chapel.
