Vicki Fehr's Obituary
Vicki Wilkinson Fehr, 64, of Westover Hills, Texas, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother, died peacefully on Thursday, surrounded by her many friends and family at The Medical Center of Plano. She will be missed by all. Born May 29, 1951 in Dallas, Texas, Vicki graduated from Hillcrest High School and received her B.A. in Psychology in 1974 from Southern Methodist University and and later received a Master’s degree in Education from Abileen Christian University. Vicki was a member of Delta Delta Delta and served as Alumnae Chapter President in Abilene, Texas from 1998-99. Vicki began her career as an educator in Hale Center, Texas, where she taught fifth grade. As her career progressed, Vicki developed a passion for diagnosing and teaching children and adults with neurological disabilities. In her role as educational diagnostician, Vicki assisted students with disabilities while working with Dr. Sam Brinkman, Kenley School, and Taylor-Callahan Educational Cooperative. She retired in 2006 from Hardin Simmons University where she was the Director of its Dyslexia Center and Coordinator for the Office of Disability Services. Vicki’s great capacity for helping others manifested in her many volunteer positions in the Abilene and Fort Worth, Texas communities. Vicki particularly enjoyed the time she donated to the Abilene Food Pantry and Medical Care Mission. Vicki served on the Board of Directors at the Alliance for Women and Children (previously the YWCA) and the Salvation Army’s Ft. Worth Advisory Council as a member of the Community Relations and Development Committee. Vicki was also a Junior League and Garden Club member. Vicki was a strong Christian and served her church and faith as she served so many others. Vicki was an elder at First Central Presbyterian Church of Abilene, where she also served as Chairperson of the Christian Education Committee. Vicki was an active member of the church’s Lifeline Council and an enthusiastic bible study and Sunday School participant. Vicki was always eager to support any activity that involved helping children and families. Her own children and grandchildren were the most important things in the world to her and provided another outlet for her apparently endless supply of selflessness. Vicki loved to travel with her friends and sisters and did so extensively throughout the United States and Europe. She was an animal lover and hated to see any creature suffer. Vicki was preceded in death by her mother, Bonnie Lay Irwin of Dallas, father Jack Douglas Wilkinson, and stepfather James D. Irwin, all of Dallas. Vicki is survived by her loving family, including son Bart Fehr of Houston, Texas, son Brian Fehr of Dallas, sister Sherrie Johnson of Benton, Louisiana, sister Lisa Tucker of Searcy Arkansas, brother Jason Wilkinson of Dallas, granddaughters Vail Linnea Fehr and London Jean Fehr of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and granddaughter Charlotte Lucile Fehr of Houston, along with many adoring cousins, nieces, and nephews. Known to Vail, London, and Charlotte as “NaNa ViVi,” Vicki was eagerly awaiting the birth of twin grandchildren, Charles Boone and namesake Alice Victoria. Vicki is joined in death as in life by Steve, her devoted husband of 42 years and often referred to as the luckiest man on earth. The family wishes to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time. Special thanks is extended to the first responders and other medical care teams that provided such superior care and support following Vicki and Steve’s tragic accident, including the Bryan County (Oklahoma) Fire Department and EMS, Bryan County Sheriff’s Department, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Air Evac Life Team, agents of the National Transportation and Safety Board, Brown’s Funeral Home of Durant, Oklahoma, and the tremendous professionals of the Neurological Intensive Care Unit at The Medical Center of Plano. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed in Vicki’s name to the Salvation Army of Ft. Worth or to any of the charitable organizations listed above. Memorial service 2PM Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, Dallas, TX.
