Victoria Fontana's Obituary
Victoria Evelyn Fontana passed away peacefully in Dallas on November 26, 2017, at the age of 97. She was born on June 2, 1920, in Schenectady, New York, to Vincenzo and Filomena (Marotta) Mauriello. After graduating from Spencer Business School, she worked from 1941-45 as a comptometer operator at General Electric International in Schenectady. She married Robert Edward Fontana on December 2, 1945, and they were married for 62 years until his death on December 24, 2007. Together they had three children, Robert Edward, Thomas Paul and Mary Joan. They lived in Riverside, CA; Champaign-Urbana, Illinois; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Washington D.C.; Dayton, Ohio; and retired in Dallas, Texas.Victoria studied art at the Dayton Art Institute from 1964-66. She was a talented artist and her portfolio included paintings in acrylic, watercolor, and pastel; sculptures in bronze and terracotta; charcoal and ink sketches and drawings; and jewelry making. She also had a natural gift as an interior designer and often helped family and friends with home decorating and balancing. She was a gourmet cook and loved cooking for family gatherings.Victoria lived a life of prayer and loved to share the importance and power of prayer with others. Every day, she said dozens of rosaries, one for each of her friends and family members. She had to use labeled pennies to keep track.Victoria was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will forever be in our hearts and prayers, and we will miss her every day.Victoria was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Fontana, her son-in-law, Bruce Flinchbaugh, her brothers, Dominick Mauriello and Salvatore Mauriello, and her sisters, Antoinette Lotano, Anna Cognetta, Camella Batista, and Helen DiSarro Williams. She is survived by her children, Robert (Barbara) Fontana, Thomas (Donna) Fontana and Mary Joan Fontana; and her grandchildren, Tim Fontana, Greg Fontana, Cathy Fontana, John Flinchbaugh (Jessica Ngo), and Anne Flinchbaugh (Tom Banasiak).Friends may make memorial donations to Carmelite Monastery, 1931 W Jefferson Rd,Pittsford, NY 14534-1041A memorial mass will be held on December 1 at 10:30 am at All Saints Catholic Church, Dallas, TXFuneral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, Texas 75243.
