Viorel Petru Lacatusu's Obituary
Mr. Viorel Petru Lacatusu passed on peacefully, surrounded by immediate family, on January 6, 2026.
A hydropower engineer, he laid the foundations of the modern Romanian hydropower industry, coordinating and working on projects of national importance, such as the Stejarul-Bicaz, Valea Bistritei and Porțile de Fier I hydropower plants. He stood out for his competence and excellence and was the first CEO of Hidroelectrica SA. After retirement, he continued training hydropower specialists, engineers and technical staff, at FORMENERG.
But, above his professional achievements, he was a cheerful and good-natured man, with absolute honesty and integrity, a friendly man, who always had a kind word and wise advice for anyone in need. He lived his life according to Christian principles, being an example of behavior and balance for all his family, friends, Godsons and Goddaughters, relatives and for all those he worked with, throughout an impeccable career.
His wife, son and daughter-in-law, brother, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, friends, we will all miss him, until we are reunited, in God's Light.
May God forgive him and rest his soul in peace!
Dl. Viorel Petru Lăcătușu s-a stins din viață pe 6 Ianuarie 2026.
Inginer hidroenergetician, a pus bazele industriei hidroenergetice românești moderne, coordonând și lucrând la proiecte de importanță națională, precum hidrocentralele Stejarul-Bicaz, Valea Bistritei și Porțile de Fier I. S-a remarcat prin competență și excelență și a fost primul Director General al Hidroelectrica SA. După pensionare, a continuat munca de formare a specialiștilor hidroenergeticieni prin coordonarea activităților de perfecționare a inginerilor și personalului tehnic la FORMENERG.
Dar, mai presus de realizările profesionale, a fost un Om, vesel, plin de umor și bună dispoziție, cu onestitate și verticalitate absolute, un om pentru oameni, care a avut mereu o vorbă bună și un sfat înțelept pentru oricine avea nevoie. Și-a trăit viața după principiile creștine, fiind un exemplu de comportament și echilibru pentru toți cei din familie, prieteni, fini și pentru toți cei cu care a lucrat, de-a lungul unei cariere ireproșabile.
Soția, fiul și nora, fratele, nepoții, prietenii, cu toții îi vom simți lipsa, și îi vom duce dorul, până când ne vom reîntregi, in Lumină.
Dumnezeu să îl ierte și să îl odihnească!
The visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026 at Restland Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at St. Mary's Romanian Orthodox Church at 1:00 pm, followed by interment at Restland Cemetery at 2:30 pm and memorial luncheon at St. Mary's Romanian Orthodox Church at 3:30 pm.
