Virgil Ray Williams' Obituary
Ray Williams, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, mentor, friend, and hero passed away peacefully with family on Wednesday, January 21st at 6:30pm after a lengthy illness. He is now resting in the loving arms of his LORD. Ray was born on February 4, 1935 in Shreveport, Louisiana to George and Clara Williams. He graduated from Coushatta High School in Coushatta, Louisiana as Salutatorian of his Class of 1952. From Louisiana, he headed west to Texas to attend Baylor University in Waco where he earned a degree with honors in Business Administration and held the position of brother and President of Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity. Following Baylor, Ray honorably served and protected his country as a Captain in the United States Air Force as a jet fighter Pilot stationed in Georgia and Japan from 1956-1959. After his Military Service, Ray went on to launch a hugely successful 44 year career with IBM in Sales and Sales Management where he made lifelong friends with his co workers and customers alike and retired in 2000. He spent his retirement years enjoying his life long passions; travel with his beloved wife Barbara, spending time with all of his sons and grandchildren, Usher Chairman for Spring Valley United Methodist Church every Sunday, President of the Royal Oaks Senior Golf Association, and playing golf at least 3-4 times a week. Ray was an avid golfer with 2 “Holes-In-One” to his name and a founding member of Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas. Ray was honored by the Salesmanship Club of Dallas for his volunteer service at the Byron Nelson Classic for the past 28 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Barbara; his three sons Michael Ray Williams, Mark Ramsey Williams, Dr. Kelly George Williams, MD; and his eight grandchildren Dustin Michael Williams, Nicole Barrett Williams, Emma Paige Williams, Alexander Ramsey Williams, Sydney Maude Williams, Kendall Kelsey Williams, Elliott Georgeanne Williams, and Abigail Grace Williams. The entire Williams Family wishes to thank Dr. Paul Wade and Dr. Gary Weinstein and the fantastic 4th floor nursing staff at Presbyterian Hospital for their treatment and care. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday January 24th at 2:00pm at Spring Valley United Methodist Church, located at 7700 Spring Valley Road, Dallas, Texas 75254. Viewing will be from 6:00-8:00pm on Friday January 23rd at Restland Funeral Home located at 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75243. Graveside service at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery will be Tuesday January 27th at 10:30am. Memorials may be made to Spring Valley United Methodist Church (address listed above).
