Virginia Berry's Obituary
Virginia Lee Sanders was born January 15th in 1924, to Eugene George Sr. & Susie Katherine Jackson Sanders, in the old Parkland Hospital at the corner of Oak Lawn & Maple in Dallas, Texas. Virginia was followed by her three siblings; Eugene George Jr., William Joseph and Ruby Helen. The Depression was hard on the family and they were often hungry. During World War II Virginia worked in downtown Dallas, where she met, in 1943, a handsome young Army Air Corps Corporal named George Joel Berry, and they were married July 20th, 1943 in a small ceremony in Stuttgart, Arkansas. A year later, George and Virginia welcomed Kenneth Lee, and in 1949, Mark Andrew. The family moved to Dallas, Texas in 1949 on Sgt. Berry’s discharge and bought a small, new, two bedroom VA house in South Oak Cliff; a suburb of Dallas. In the early 1970s, the Lights of Virginia’s life came into the world; her granddaughters Kate in ’72 and Marlo in ’74. These two girls prompted her happiest years. It was in this time that Virginia became ‘Gino’. Later, in the 80s, George and Gino moved to the East Texas town of Edgewood, where they built a home. A few years later they moved to Natchitoches, Louisiana, and then to Ennis, Texas in 1993, where she lost her husband Big George on November 16th 2003 and her own life on March 25th 2016. Gino was a good and simple woman who quietly revered her Christian faith. She was a good Wife to George, Mother to Kenn and Mark, Grandmother to Kate and Marlo and Great Grand Mother to Shelby, Dane and Jett. Gino will be missed. Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 31, 2016 from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Restland Memorial Chapel. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
