Virginia "Ginger" Cheek's Obituary
Nettie Virginia Polk Cheek 87, peacefully met her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 8, 2015. Ginger, as friends and family knew her, was the 7th of 10 children, growing up in Rosebud, Texas. Ginger married the love of her life, James Harold Cheek on June 25, 1946 in Fort Worth, Texas. They were married for 60 years before his death in 2007. Ginger excelled in all she did and had several successful careers. For many years, she was an administrative assistant for Mobile Oil. Shortly before retiring from Mobil, she began selling Mary Kay makeup and enjoyed giving make up parties for friends and family. Her passion, however, was her china painting. Ginger taught classes, had a studio in her home, complete with kilns, and earned countless awards including a grand prize from the State Fair of Texas. She also served as president of the China Painting Guild of Texas. Ginger was a 50-year member of Eastern Star and served in many capacities. Ginger’s quick wit and amusing banter will be sorely missed by her sisters, Ida Jones of Post, Texas, Minnie Jones of Granbury, Texas and Sue McDaniel of Conroe, Texas. In addition, she will be missed by countless nieces, nephews, and a myriad of friends. The visitation for Virginia Cheek will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, January 12, 2015 at Restland Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 11:00 AM in The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, please remember Ginger with a donation to Scottish Rite Hospital for Children or the Alzheimer’s Association.
