Virginia Roberta Christie's Obituary
Roberta Christie was born June 24, 1920 in Dallas, Tx to Roby and Virginia Jones. On Thursday, April 2, 2009 she passed away. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Edgar F Christie; grandchildren, Jason and Sherri Christie; and great grandchildren Holden, Cole, Brittanni and Kendal. She is survived by many people she loved and cared for. Among them are her sister, Wanda Sue Hanna, and her children Franklin Christie, Roby and Renee Christie, and Carl and Virginia Francis. A special and dear friend is John Murray. Grandchildren include Carl and Lisa Francis, Jeff and Cynthia Francis, Kevin and Roberta Sue Bryan and Erin Wood. She was blessed with her great grandchildren Faith Francis, Britney Bryan, Christie Jo Wood, Conner Francis, Logan Bryan, Houston Wood, and Alexandra Mutti. Friends and family include Maxine Musgrave, Ruth Musgrave, Lorayne Mutti, Horatio Cruz, Fannie Mae Monroe, Nell Phillips, M.D. Gaston, Joe Mutti, Laura Chester, Willie Mae Simpson, Ken Hildebrand, Ester Ratcliffe, Sue Murdoch Wagner, and Elizabeth Baker. Nieces and nephews include Troy and Celia Herndon, Art and Roberta Fisher, David and Sherry Hanna, and Heather and Eric Marks. Roberta Christie attended North Dallas High School and Southern Methodist University. In 1938 she met and married Ed Christie. Throughout her life she actively supported the Cub Scouts of America and the Dallas Republican Party. With her children grown, she distinguished herself in Dallas and the Park Cities with the opening of Craft Studio in Snider Plaza. She led this successful business with partner, Sue Hanna, from 1969 to 1992 when she retired. Roberta loved the artistic crafts and frequently shared her knowledge. She was president of the Minnehaha Arts and Crafts Club and , as noted craftswoman, she was a regular judge for the State Fair of Texas in the creative arts and craftsmanship. Roberta Christie believed in the daily application of her Christian faith. She taught Sunday School in the primary grades at Preston Hollow United Methodist Church and further served her faith by opening her home to all who needed a seat at her table or a place to call home. She impacted many lives with the generosity of her spirit and the bounty of her table. The family wishes to thank the staff at Walnut Place community for their loving care and many kindnessess. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 5, 2009 from 4:00 – 6:00 at Restland Funeral Home. The memorial service will be held at Restalnd’s Memorial Chapel on Monday, April 6, 2009 at 3:30 pm. The Reverand Ken Hildebrand will officiate at the service. Sons and grandsons will serve as pall bearers.
