I am Roby Christie, son of Roberta and Ed Christie That would be important to Mom because Family was important to Mom. What was important to Mom is also why most of us are wearing white shirts. A gentleman is just not dressed up and prosperous unless he is wearing a "White Shirt". As I drove here from Wichita Falls to Dallas, my thoughts were full of things that applied to Mom, Franklin, Virginia and Carl. As I made my way along the highway I listened to a CD of hymns performed by Alan Jackson. The CD title was "Precious Memories". 2 of the Hymns reminded of Mom. She was Proud of the legacy left to her stewardship by the Christie, Jones, Vaughan and Francis families and ancestors. The hymn, I love to tell the story brought to mind all the stories and legends about family. She was adapt at making sure we knew the kind of people we came from and the legacy we were to carry forward and protect. She told family stories about brave people, who fought mountain lions or who saved an orphaned slave girl. There were stories about resourceful family members who worked to tame Pikes Peak. She told of or our hardworking grandfather who set a record when he shoveled 19 tons of coal in to a steam engine locomotive in one day. There were Ethical people who established business, people who worked selflessly for others or a God loving female ancestor who rode circuit on horseback between Methodist Churches in North Central Texas. In the process she would challenge us to recognize those high standards and plan to take the mantle of family stewardship seriously. She was like Jack Stevens in Wichita Falls. Jack is a western artist and Christian Teacher. Jack will tell some stories more than once but, like Mom, Jack will apologize by saying " I may have told this before but I have to hear it again" The hymn, When we all get to Heaven reminded me so much of Mon's overwhelming ministry of bring people together, that I would accidently replace "Heaven" with the word "Together" followed by the correct Hymn verse, Oh How Happy we will be. When asked if I had a favorite hymn for today I quickly replied, "When we All Get Together". No one knew the Hymn by that name so it not a part of today's music. Mom gave "Party Girl" a whole new definition. Birthdays, Holidays, anniversaries, graduations and almost any other notable occasion warranted a festival including 50 to 75 people in her home. I think that was part of her Legacy stewardship. She planned to bind us together though common memories and shared experiences. 2 years ago Renee and I lost our son, Jason and his entire family including 4 little children that were the next generation to represent legacy Ed and Roberta Christie planned to share. There passing was hard to understand but we learned some valuable lessons that apply today. We are happy for Mom; She is with Dad, Jason, Sherrie and the children and all the folks she has loved for so many years and "Oh how happy they will be". "Verse from the Hymn" Ephesians 2: 8-10 For Grace we are saved through faith; and this not of yourselves, it is a gift from God: Not of works least anyone should boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. God prepared Mon for her family ministry and now she has redeemed her "Gift From God".
