Virginia Marcella DeWitt's Obituary
DEWITT, VIRGINIA MARCELLA passed away peacefully in her Carrollton, Texas home on Wednesday, April 28th. She was eighty-one years old. Marcella was born in Caneyville, Kentucky on March 23, 1929. Raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Marcella met her husband of sixty-three years, J.W. “Smiley” DeWitt, while he was stationed at Fort Knox. The day he was discharged from the military, they married and boarded a train for Texas, spending their honeymoon in a train station due to inclement weather. The newlyweds moved to Pampa, Texas, where they started their family. Later moving to Canadian, Texas, Marcella raised twelve children, written up in local papers as “The DeWitt Dozen.” Marcella is preceeded in death by her son Jimmy Wayne DeWitt. She is survived by husband J.W. DeWitt, children Virginia DeWitt, Ron DeWitt, Mike DeWitt, Cathey Reyes, Venita Morehead, Calvin DeWitt, Dorothy Morgan, Karen Rodgers, J.W. DeWitt, Jr., Vickie Lauer, and Tim DeWitt, as well as twenty grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
