Virginia Kay Epperson's Obituary
Virginia “Ginger” Kay Isaacs Epperson passed away on November 6, 2020, at the age of 74. Ginger was preceded in death by her parents, Walter McCall Isaacs and Minnie Wilma Boren Isaacs, her older brothers, Herman Isaacs, Davis Isaacs, Ray Isaacs, Dean Isaacs, Bob Isaacs, and James Isaacs, and her husband William “Bill” Epperson. She is survived by her sister, Shirlie Tenison, children, Brett and Erin, her daughter-in-law, Barbara, granddaughters, Miller and Everly, her best friend MaryAnn Beard, and cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Ginger was born in Fairlie, Texas on March 5, 1946, and grew up in Wolfe City. After high school she attended Paris Junior College and graduated from East Texas State University with a degree in elementary education. She chose that college to remain close to her family who she dearly loved. She began her career as an elementary teacher in Garland ISD, and fulfilled her true passion, teaching primary students how to read. She inspired her students to love learning and reading. Ginger enjoyed teaching second grade, and remained a lifelong, inspirational educator. Even after retirement from Garland ISD, she still substituted for teachers in Garland ISD and later Belton ISD.
On August 12, 1971, Ginger married William “Bill” Epperson, a coach and teacher in Garland ISD. She later received her masters degree in education from East Texas State University. Ginger and Bill welcomed their children Erin and Brett, and later their granddaughters Miller and Everly, who were the most important part of her life. The couple moved to Temple, Texas, in 2015 to be near Miller and Everly. Ginger and Bill attended every event in the girls lives and Ginger never missed a book fair, sporting event, or performance. Besides teaching, Ginger loved people. She never met a stranger, and instead made fast friends with everyone in her path. Ginger will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and former students. As Henry Adams said, “A teacher affects eternity: he can never tell where his influence stops.”
A graveside funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 12th at Restland Memorial Park.
