Virginia Hubbard-Smith
May 29, 1939—May 25, 2024
Virginia Hubbard-Smith passed peacefully into God’s arms on May 25, 2024, surrounded by
her loving family members.
Virginia was born May 29, 1939, to Martha and Samuel Massey in West Vienna, Illinois.
Both of her parents succumbed to influenza early in her life and she went to live with her
mother’s brother Russel and his wife Ardis. She married Kenneth Hubbard from Olmsted,
Illinois in 1956 after his tour in the Army. They moved to Arizona after their second son was
born in 1960, eventually settling in Scottsdale, where they raised their family. Virginia
worked for several years for Motorola in manufacturing. She taught herself bookkeeping
and worked several years for Ramada Inn in their corporate headquarters located in
Phoenix. After Kenneth’s death in 1977, she left Scottsdale and eventually settled in Texas
in 1986. She married Charles Fred Smith in 2003 and continued to work in bookkeeping and
in administrative roles until her retirement in 2010. During her life she completed over 60
half marathons in various locations across the country.
She was preceded in death by Kenneth Hubbard, her husband Charles Fred Smith, her
brothers Gene and Frank, and her sister Patricia. She is survived by her sons Alan (Pam)
and Brian (Isabelle); 5 grandchildren; her sister Ruth.
A celebration of life will be held at Restland Funeral Home. 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas 75243, on June 22 at 2pm. In the Wildwood Chapel
